Mishka, of Quilting Gallery put out a call for quilts for those in need after Hurricane Sandy blew through up north. I'm not a traditional quilter...but figured the log cabin blocks would be easy enough for me and I certainly have enough fabric...so I made blocks which will be sent to another lady...who will put them together into a quilt and then send them on to the distribution center.
Mishka still needs quilts the last time I heard, so if you feel inclined...check out what you can do to help. I am traditionally pretty selfish about making things for charity - so this is not a request for you to do anything at all. But IF you want to help...go here.
On another note...last week...on Thanksgiving Day...we celebrated Sophia's 5th birthday!!!
The kids are going to be in Indiana until a few days before Christmas, so I plan to take some time to do a little soul searching.
these above pix were taken from my seat at a nearby restaurant in Las Flores...on Rio Magdalena where you can get the BEST fresh fish EVER. |
While I'm missing them.

Your quilting contribution looks great. It sounds amazing that various people will put them together...I wonder if the recipient will realise how they evolved.
ReplyDeleteThanks Ann. I really don't know how it goes to the person after leaving the quilter. Guess I need to read again.
Deletesuch beautiufl quilting, I was quite an avid quilter before my eye sight went kaput, I enjoy looking at them now and yours are always a treat.I hope you enjoy your quiet time, take care.
ReplyDeleteThank you Laurie. My blocks would have been put in the bin with some of the others that I wasn't thrilled with...but I ran out of time. I just know the lady who quilts them...will make them look better!
DeleteSoul searching....? May I hold out hope that you might be moving back to sunny SW Florida? (The house across the canal is for sale!)
ReplyDeleteKudos for helping the Sandy victims, they are devastated. Being wrapped in a love quilt will surely help both physically and emotionally! :)
I SO want to move back. I've been in a terrible funk since returning. I really don't think I can leave my Sophia...so I've got to find a way to do what I always say I can do. That is...to make myself happy no matter where I am. I like the thought of a love quilt. I wasn't thrilled about them but that just makes them better...because they were made with love.
DeleteShe is growing so fast. Love that red boat, what a beauty...love your quilt blocks to donate as well. xox
ReplyDeleteOh SO fast! We've lived half her life in Colombia. Blows me away. Thanks Corrine. Those boats work every day. It's always fun to sit at the restaurant and watch them come and go.
DeleteLOVE your blocks! Two more and that would be a fabulous quilt! Kudos to you for this charity work.
ReplyDeleteThank you Annie. When I volunteered, they asked how many blocks I would make and I said 10. (See, I don't think like traditional quilters). Why I didn't say 12, I don't know. When I got an email with instructions, Mishka said to make the number of blocks I'd committed to...no more, no less. So...10 it was.
Deleteoh coconut water, tamarinds, guavas and mangoes. glorious tropics
ReplyDeletePapaya, pina, mandarinas, aguacate, platano maduro.....ahhhhhhh.
DeleteLovely blocks. What a great way to help.
ReplyDeleteI think I wish I'd taken the time to pull out (find) my best fabrics...but I did this in the middle of all the crud...and just didn't have what it took. Maybe I'll do more.
