So...thankfully, art and spending time with family are fun priorities in my world. (And...keeping in touch via blogging and other computer stuff).
It's already Wednesday...and that means WOYWW.
I didn't achieve a ton of art this week, but I love and am excited about what I DID do!
I'd mentioned previously that I'm participating in a Crazy Quilt Round Robin where each of us adds to the others blocks. I added flowers to Vivian's block this week...
I'd also mentioned - last blog - that while at a party, I was asked by a very pretty girly-girl to make a bag out of pinks - which I just happened to have plenty of - and loved making this bag for her...
It's my first commissioned piece since moving to Barranquilla...so it's kind of a thrill to sell something again. :)
The bag that she liked (pictured in my last post) was an altered pieced quilt which gave me a great reason to piece some of my surface designed fabrics together.
Of course the opportunity to practice free motion stitching presented itself...
I still need to add embellishment and a closure but that just means a trip to the modista today. :) As it's handled...it'll get hairier - fuzzier - softer.
Sophia and I finished her jewelry box but can't find the hardware taken off. We put it in a place where we knew it wouldn't get lost and we wouldn't forget. So, I'm SURE it'll show up sometime in the next few
While she was adding the last little touches, some glue got on her hand and oh my goodness...I think she feels about glue the same way her annie! grandma does. Hmmmm.
I finally narrowed down the fabrics I'd use for her Barbie Charm School Princess dress that she chose for her costume. I've got to finish that within a couple days...so busy end of week for me.
I painted the pink plaid all the way at the other end of the line for the bow for her dress and of course had to use up the last little drip of paint on other fabrics.
(That plaid has been in my stash since my mother-in-law gave it to me when Sophia's mommy (my daughter) was a baby.)
The tables in my play room decided they needed to switch positions so I moved them yesterday and got all the dust bunnies out from under that area. Now, no matter what Sophia does while sitting in her yellow chair...it won't matter to the glass table. And her little legs will fit in better. :)
My hubby likes arepas for breakfast - and I don't do much more than toast and fruit in the morning - especially when there's so much art to be arting...so I caught him cooking...which rarely happens around here!
And that just makes me happy!
Something else that makes me happy, really happy, is the love, support, encouragement, and motivation I get from all of you. Thanks for the uplifting comments about my orange hair (I'm feelin good about it now)(pictures soon) and everything else you comment on!!!
Create Your Life...
annie!
That pink bag is wonderful...lucky girl who has commissioned that...as for the expression on Sophia's face due to the glue...priceless!
ReplyDeletebeing a drawing teacher, i've seen similar "round robin" activities with drawing, but i've never seen it with quilting. love, love , love that round robin crazy quilt idea!
ReplyDeleteThere is so much lovely quilting going on there. The many pieces are so pretty.
ReplyDeleteSweet post Annie, love the views of your world, your adorable granddaughter and hubby and your gorgeous creations, that bag is divine! xox Corrine
ReplyDeleteI adore your quilts and the bag, beautiful fabrics - they look very strokeable.
ReplyDeleteHey lovely annie wow you do have a busy week - I was wondering if you were going to mention the orange hair or not lol can't wait to see. Your new customer is going to be thrilled with her bag, so beautiful, I wish I knew how to create manipulate fabric as beautifully as you do, lots of love Jennibellie xxx
ReplyDeleteOh your fabrics are A.M.A.ZING!! I love the idea of the quilting round robin but fear that my quilting skills are not up to the mark for something like that. And the pink bag is LUSH!
ReplyDeleteHugs, LLJ #40 xx
Your bag is very pink....very girlie.....
ReplyDeleteI'm sure she'll love it!!
Looks to me like you got a lot done !!!!!
Gorgeous pink bag...just my favorite color. Love your workspace too...looks so inviting. xx
ReplyDeleteThanks Ann! You're one of the main ones I want to thank for all of your wonderful compliments to me. That expression shows up every now and then...and most of the time...I can laugh it off. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you jaeartworks! I used to belong to a crazy quilt group and we would do this type of round robin. I love these ladies and the bottom line is that now I'll have a little piece of them on my CQ block. But wow...I've never thought about doing it with drawing! Cool idea.
ReplyDeleteThanks a ton Maggie! I'm glad you stopped by. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Corrine! xxxooooxxxx right back atcha!
ReplyDeleteLOL - thanks Ann B! But...isn't ALL fabric strokeable?!? :)
ReplyDeleteOh Jennibellie...you don't need to know how to create and manipulate fabric!!! What you do with it right now - along with paper, etc - is simply incredible!!! Thank you so much for your continued encouraging words! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Jan!!! I really love surface designing fabric. It's probably my favorite thing to do. :) Actually, we're embroidering on each other's blocks...and all learning in the process. jaeartworks (above) mentioned that she'd done round robins with drawing. I love that idea too! Really you could try it with most any medium. :)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous creations, love them all..My DH does all the cooking...lol
ReplyDeletethanks for the peek and sharing.
xoxo Marjo
Thank you Vintage Green! I can't wait to present it to her. If she doesn't like it...I DO!!! :) And yes...I got a lot done but not compared to what I want to do. And yet...here I sit. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Dion! Now you KNOW you're invited to come ANYtime to play at my house. :) (Bring your new pink pens!)
ReplyDeleteThanks Marjo! Lucky YOU!!!
ReplyDeleteFABulous pink bag! Your surfaced designed fabrics are wonderful! I know she’s going to love it! And I love your embroidered flower on the CQ block! You can embroider on my quilts anytime!
ReplyDeleteCan’t wait to see Sophia in her costume too!
So much loveliness to see and admire on your blog and I'm so happy I visited. I love patchwork & quilting and I'm planning to start quilts for my three little grandees in time for them going into full size beds. I love your vibrant use of colours and also the style of your fabric lay outs.
ReplyDeleteMust ask what arepas are??? Never heard of them before!
love joZarty x
Wow, you really are a busy bee this week. I love all that fabric art and so cool that you paint fabrics. I've been wanting to try it for years, but since I'm such a beginner I don't even know where to start. May need to get a book on it or something. Julia sure is lucky to have such a creative grandma! ;-)
ReplyDeleteLove your WOYWW entry! The colors are vibrant and the quilting fabulous! My DH only makes two things, coffee and waffles. That means Saturdays are sleep ins for me... and the rest of the week is a cup of coffee and puppy dog eyes to make him something :) LOL! Thanks for sharing and good luck with the barbie dress! -Amanda
ReplyDeleteOh Thanks Robin! I hope to deliver today or tomorrow. When at my CQG mtg yesterday, one of my girls asked me to make one for her too. Before I mentioned I was making a commission bag! And a lady at the beauty shop asked about the one I was carrying! It's weird that I've been here 17 months and all of a sudden...interested parties!
ReplyDeleteThank you JoZart! I'm happy you visited too! I do patchwork off and on but this year it seems to be "ON". :) I surface design most of the fabrics in my stuff and love using up the tiniest scraps for projects...never get tired of it. :) Arepas are a corn meal pancake...sort of...popular in South America...where I live. We make them from sweet corn and melt mozzarella cheese on top...with or without syrup. YUM!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Caatje! I've been painting fabric for a few years now...and monoprinting, batiking, dyeing, screenprinting, stamping, block printing...and I'm sure there's more. I was scared at first because I didn't want to do it wrong. Now...I'll try most anything! :) It's FUN and I hope you'll give it a try. Just do what you would with paper...keeping in mind what is and isn't waterproof. I might do some posts on how-tos when I get back from the States...and through Christmas. :) Busy time of year for me!!! I'm the lucky grandma! Hmmmm...Julia....does this mean Sophia is going to have a sister I don't know about?!? Or wait...maybe when my son comes home from Iraq in THREE WEEKS!!! they'll finally get pregnant with a Julia. :) love you Caatje! xxooxxx
ReplyDeleteThank you Amanda! We can't buy really good bacon here in Barranquilla...which is good for us healthwise...but he can also make a MEAN bacon and egg with potatos breakfast. And I mean that in a GOOD way. :) I'll take ANY help I can get in the kitchen. I really appreciate your compliments and I'm gonna need good luck on the Barbie Dress. LOL!!! It's freakin me out!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks you so so much for your lovely comments re my blog!!! If you like the background effect you can see how to make it via the Spray Starch BackGround button on my sidebar. Who knows it might work on fabric too... I've never tried it out... yet!
ReplyDeleteMust try out those arepas. I make tortillas from corn meal to make a lovely Mexican dish so wondered if the same corn meal I use would work?
Jo x
Thanks AGAIN! I have my granddaughter today but will check out your technique asap. We buy a corn meal mix and just add milk or water for our arepas but...I'll ask around for a good recipe from scratch. :)
ReplyDeleteAt the beginning of your post you said you didn't get much art done this week? I would say you certainly did!! Your quilting is beautiful and such bright and happy colours!
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my blog and leaving the lovely comment!
xoxo
Karen

ReplyDeleteYay! Another Quilter on WOYWW and a brave one at that - free quilting. I have only done a little on the quilt on my settee which incidentally I am sitting on right now!
ReplyDeleteOh wow! That bag is awesome! I love things that are made from lots of other things like that. Its like a thousand little bits of history in one practical but beautiful item.
ReplyDeleteHi Sam! Thank you for the lovely compliment! I like being Brave! Off to see your work. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute bag! and your granddaughter looks so sweet :) I used to love jewelry boxes when I was little too. Thanks for visiting my blog :)
