I spent a couple years trying out surface design techniques,
and another two dyeing (minimum), painting and inking/marking on fabric.
Some of my altered stash is finally beginning to go away but it'll still take me years to use it and the rest.
I'm wondering if...any of you people out there in art land...
would be interested in a retreat - in January or February 2k13 - held near my home in Barranquilla, Colombia?
You pay your expenses to get here but you only have to bring a minimum of 'things'.
Then, we play with most of my stash. I might have some for sale.
You'll see the selfish side of me when I tell you that we'll be using what I consider to be my beloved least favorite art supplies. But hey! That's what I've been doing for about 10 years now...which means, in my opinion, that I'm beginning to get into the good stuff.
My fee for putting it together would be that you pay my expenses...but I can set that up fairy cheap - per person.
I'll rent a place to sleep, eat and make art, along with a lady to cook and clean for us.
I'll begin looking into places and prices and if there are enough people interested, I could begin to make it happen.
I'm pretty good at that kind of thing.
We'll call it Costena Playtime Art Retreat because...depending on the rates, we can stay in Barranquilla, Santa Marta or Cartagena. Whichever of the two cities we don't sleep in - we'll take a day trip to.
Of course...this will be your retreat and I'd tailor make it to make the majority happy.
And if I don't get one interested person, I won't take it personally.
I'll just think about doing a post where I beg, I mean, ask that you let me come to your group so I can teach there instead.
Love, peace and all things groovy to you and yours...
CREATE YOUR LIFE,
annie!
PS (The first pictures above are the progression of my bohemiannie! page in my fabric book). (Then there are a few of the areas where we looked for yard sales). (And finally, some cool stuff on the wall at a flea market near Stillhouse Hollow Dam).
Oh, fun, fun page annie! I love that face and the hair, the shape and the surroundings that bring it to life. I sure hope you get lots of interested retreat folks.
ReplyDeleteHi Annie. Thanks so much for your enthusiasm! :) Much appreciated. It doesn't look like I'll be able to lure many folks to Colombia...but...oh well.
DeleteI'll just have to keep coming HERE!
Very Creative piece - I'd imagine your stash of fabrics and lace looks like my stash of metal and junk! What a fun workshop to plan and I do hope it works out for you. Never been to Colombia!?? ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks Suzy! I think my stash is purty durn full as I do believe your outbuildings and yard are! (I imagine you to have outbuildings). :) So far, no takers on the retreat...but that's ok. I know Colombia isn't on many peoples's travel wish list but I thought I'd throw out the idea.
DeleteCool book! I like the face! I’d hate to have to comb her ‘hair’ though! LOL
ReplyDeleteYour retreat idea sounds fab! I hope you get a lot of interest!
Thank you Robin. :) I don't think she owns a comb...and would NEVER allow anyone else's to touch her head.
DeleteWhat a fabulous and adventurous idea! I think it might be a bit out of my personl price range, but other than that it sounds just marvelous. I do hope people who live a little closer will be able to attend and particpate, because it sounds like such fun. I've been playing with ideas like that in my head too, especially since I live on such a wonderful location, but I'm a bit intimidated by it. I've organized professional overnight gatherings for work, but when it comes to the artsy stuff, that's a bit too new and scary. Who knows, one day... Good luck!
ReplyDeleteThanks Caatje. :) I would love to spend time with you just soaking up your creativity...but alas...it looks like it's out of the price range of most to come to a country/city that isn't a high priority vacation spot. Oh well. I'm sure that if you tried it, there'd be many who would attend. I just don't have the local interest in the type of art I do...yet.
DeleteI imagine your stash is incredible and would love to see it but Columbia is a bit too far away for me. Maybe some day I can put together a group for you. xox
ReplyDeleteThanks Corrine. My stash really is incredible and believe it or not...I'm adding to it while here visiting yard sales!!! YIKES! I would love to come teach your group. Then, I'd get to meet YOU!
DeleteWhat a fabulous idea Annie! If only I could afford the airfare from the UK!!
ReplyDeleteI sure wish you could! It doesn't look like I'll have any 'takers' but as they say...nothing ventured...nothing gained.
Deleterats!! such fun and i won't be able to attend :(
ReplyDeleteWell dang darn it all. I was so hoping. Really. It'd be simply awesome to meet you in person.
DeleteI just checked airfare and sadly, the least expensive fare was just over $900 with 3 connections AND travel time of 24 hours. :(
ReplyDeleteOh YUCK! Well...thank you for checking. I Really appreciate that you would consider it and take the time to see. We will meet one day.
DeleteHey, there! This is a fun idea. I honestly can't go anywhere. We are saving every penny (and I'm gold-leafing some quarters) for the next two trips we have already booked. It's ridiculous! I asked if I could do a $10. swap, and was laffed out of the room.
ReplyDeleteBut enough about me. These pages are marvelous, as usual. I certainly hope this works out for you, because selfishly, I want to hear all about it!
Well thanks! So hoping those gold leafed quarters work out. Let me know...and...I'll keep you updated! :)
