There's an iguana under that flower.
This art journal looks very similar to the Hot Dog art journal you may have seen in my last post,
because I worked on them at the same time,
using lots of the same ephemera -
but is actually quite different.
Both of these journals were made out of recycled greeting cards.
The flowers on the cover of both are some that I made for a project which my Sophia asked me to help her make.
She designed and directed the above flower robot and I used left-over flowers for the art journal covers. :)
Jennibellie was my main inspiration. :)
I was also motivated by the fact that I'll be teaching a couple workshops on making art journals out of what most people usually throw away
- in Florida -
in about 3 weeks time!
I have hundreds more cards that I've saved over the years and will hopefully put them to good use...soon.
I've decided I'm on a down-sizing spree and every time I use something that I already have on hand...
it makes me feel SO good.
It really is a totally joyful process.
Try it -
you'll like it!
annie!
I do I do but even us avid recyclers get overwhelmed with too much at times. I want to see the rest of that iguana, they are so cute those guys. What could be better than a flower robot, Sophia is a big thinker already!!! xox Corrine
ReplyDeleteThanks Corrine! Isn't that the truth?!? I'm happy that we're teaching children while they're young to take up where we just can't do it ALL!!! I don't know if the Iguana will come out of hiding. You know how they are. And yes...Sophia has a VIVID imagination!!!
DeleteI love that you use recycled paper/cards in your art. I agree, it's so satisfying to make
ReplyDeleteart out of "trash?". Yours is lovely.
Thank you! I have such a hard time throwing anything away. It’s gotten really bad. :)
DeleteAnother 'groovy' journal. (This Side Up! Hahahahaha!)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your sense of humor Robin! (insert wicked grin)
DeleteWow! Your journals just blow me away. I so want to touch them and go through them and most of all...make some myself! I wish I had more time right now. Please keep making these so I can live vicariously through you!
ReplyDeleteOh thank you Caatje! Coming from a master art journal-er, I really appreciate your compliment! :) PS (Come on down and we can play)!
Deletelovely, but i am not fond of iguanas. even fabric ones!
ReplyDeleteLOL! Thankfully, it’s just his foot! Can you believe I saved it?!? We have iguanas visit our back yard and they constantly eat the new leaves from our plants. I mostly love them. :)
DeleteI love the journals. I really wish I could come to Florida to take your class. I have been saving paper 'stuff' for years.... spud 2 came across my stash of fortune cookie fortunes and was appalled! I just can't figure out how to get started.
ReplyDeleteSophie's robot is adorable. It is wonderful to see her learning to create with you.
Thank you Char! I wish you could come too! Get that stuff out!!! I don't think I'll ever run out - and I've pretty much quit collecting! I love Sophia's creative streak!

:) Thank you Christine! When I found that foot, years ago, I knew there'd be a place for it one day.
DeleteOh my gosh...how smart is that to use greeting cards this way!
ReplyDeleteI know!!! Isn't it wonderful?!? Wish I'd thought of it!!! But I guess it doesn't matter...because I found out!!! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteLoving both of these journals...so great to feel good about creating such lovly works as well as feeling virtuous for using what you have ;-)
ReplyDeleteAw thanks Lynette! I unabashedly am my own biggest fan. I really do love what I make and using up all that stuff just makes it more so! Totally conceited...I know!
DeleteL-ush!! Think this one is my fav....hmmmm may be...I dunno....I love them all, but I think so lol! Oh I'm on a year-long use it all up binge, I've no idea why I still have so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Madness lol think I need to stop eating for a while so I at least don't have that packaging to upcycle lol much love xxxx
ReplyDeleteLOL - Thank you dear Jennibellie! I've been using "it" up for two years now and JUST beginning to see the slightest change in my stash. And yeppers...gotta quit eating. MUST allow something to go into the trash...but it's so hard! The girls in my workshop last week might've thought I was a little over the edge. :)
