IT'S GOING AWAY

Almost 59 years worth of belongings are headed...

or gone...

 out the door.

I can't even begin to tell you how good it feels to let it go.

I have a friend in FL who collects treasure like I do and continuously kicks to the curb anything that she isn't 'feeling' anymore.

I've always marveled at how she could throw those things away.

But now I know.

It's liberating!

Totally.

I've had SO much fun this week giving away stuff and selling some other.

It was like Christmas excitement...and it was all in the giving.

I've begun sorting what I want to keep of my art supplies...

and even there, I'm thrilled to be getting rid of so many things that I've had for SO long.

I'm coming across items that I'd totally forgotten I own.

I'm a little ashamed to say that I spent a lot of money on some of it...

and have never even taken it out of it's packaging.

I'm not saying it won't happen again...

but I really don't think it will.

I'll be extremely selective in what I bring into the house...

and I'll USE IT UP or move it out.

I've always had a bag or box of stuff near the door that I take to or give to the next person I see

and look forward to putting some of the really good goodies in those bags in future.

I'm going to select my FAVORITE items to make art with from now on.

No...wait...that's another post.

So, until then...

Create Your Life,

annie!

PS (Once again, I have pretty much forgotten I own a camera, ((CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT?!?))

so the pictures in this post are from about 3 years ago...when I first moved to Colombia...or just before).

  1. beautiful images!! I have been in the place you are now, parting with material stuff, but the good stuff never leaves you, the memories of the doing, the journey.I live with very little now and love it! I kept some of my larger peices of art and interchange them, we gave away 70 percent of what we owned and ahve never looked back, we are not defined by what we own, you will become addicted to the free life you are creating, you might miss a few things now and thenbut that passes, just keep what you truly love, take care my friend, I think of you often,

    1. Thank you Laurie! I'm doing so well with the material stuff...that it's amazing. I do have my memories...and the most important thing is to focus on whatever is beautiful and lovely and positive. So I AM!

  2. Ohh....fresh start........clean slate.......I so love that! It can be SO fun as well as a bit frustrating too. Since me and my stuff are not in the same place right now, I'm loving acquiring the new, but I'm also sometimes desperately missing the unreachable. Love the giant wall flowers!

    1. Me too!!! Those flowers were painted during the 6 long weeks it took for our belongings to arrive...after we did...to Colombia. We had less then, than we already do in St Pete! Hope you can be home soon! Or at least continue to acquire some really cool stuff!

  3. I’ve always been a ‘purger’! Husband jokes that if he doesn’t hold on tight he’ll end up at the curb one day too! LOL

    1. Ruh Roh! He'd better be on his best behavior! And now I know how you can pass off all those wonderful magazines! I just gave away all of my QA issues dating back to the 2nd one!!!

  4. I love the giant wall flowers too, it's a great photograph. Having a good throw out can be very liberating, it frees the mind for the future to recreate in a fresh and different way. We've got several rooms in the house where there is not a thing on the walls, it's very, very restful. Break free!

  5. Looks like a yaya sisterhood party with your glow in the dark headdress.....give it away, use it up, sounds good. Wonderful little sketches and I KNEW it wouldn't take you long to get painting that white box. Love the flowers.....so welcoming. xox

    1. LOL! Thanks Corrine. These pictures were all taken just before or just after moving here 3 years ago...but I DO plan to paint flowers all over my fence...until the real ones cover them up!!! My friends gave me (the three of us) a fabulous weekend at the beach and we did get a little crazy...but only in the best possible way!

  12. Oh Annie, those flowers on the wall, I couldn't believe how beautiful? Whatmdid you paint them with, I have a wall I'd love to replicate them on out on my patio.
Getting rid of stuff is liberating but difficult since when you start sorting, the keep pile tends to be larger than the get rid of.
I assume you are now in your new home since you had mentioned the 24th.
I love the photo of you and hubby, it's always nice to see the faces of the people you love so much. You are one of my favorite people and would love to meet you in person one day.
Much love your way. Can I send package now? Or would it be too overwhelming?

    1. Thank you so much Constanza! I painted the flowers on the wall around our back yard - first thing - when we moved to Barranquilla 3 years ago. We didn't have our belongings for 6 weeks (which arrived at the Port 2 weeks before we did_. I went out and bought simple, cheap, water based paint. Everything was in Spanish and I had no idea what I was buying...but found out later that even though I goofed by using it outside, my flowers stayed on the wall until it began to be in dire need of paint. The paint lasted through a very heavy, long, rainy season but molded/mildewed the walls and paint. They're now covered up with a beautiful celery green color - at least they were when we left the house some 13 months or so ago. Anyway, I just had a wonderful time, looking through all the thumbnails on this computer...and couldn't find a picture with the name of the paint. What I remember is Vanillo...but can't promise. It was...close as I can tell...like poster paint. I bought and mixed blue, red, yellow and white. I went into, and finished it with various markers that I'd brought to Colombia with me...everything from Sharpies to Micron. My marker supply was - and still is - sadly lacking. I'm going to paint the privacy fence and shed out back! I'm so busy putting away the few dozen things we bought last week...and the stuff that ended up in the suitcase. We'll be painting a lot of furniture this week...so maybe while the paint is out and the brush is wet, I'll mosey on out back.

It's taken me 2 or 3 hours of popping up and down to get this email written, so I'm signing off now, even though I didn't address everything you wrote about. I really only sit when I'm pooped...and I'm itchin to get busy!

Thank you so much Constanza. You've been a bright spot in my life for years now and you know I'd love anything you send my way. Make sure to email your address...or put it on the package.

Love, peace and all things groovy!
