A DAY AT THE BEACH

Grumpy and I took Sophia to the beach last week

and while I don't have pictures of her online anymore...at mommy's request...

I do have LOTS of pictures that I took there and on the way home.

Most of them were shot on the way home...

going down the road...

out the Land Rover window.

This particular beach,

Playa Mendoza,

is between Barranquilla - where we live -

and Cartagena.

(Think...Romancing The Stone).

Since I have SO many pictures to show you...

I'll let them speak for themselves.

If you have questions about anything you see

just ask in the comments.

  1. Interesting pictures. I think we (in the US) forget how lucky we are and how much we have until we see other countries. I would be very uncomfortable living with armed military on the streets. (Glad I’m no longer in NY for that very reason!)

    1. And to think...I didn't show you the worst. Jerry loves to say, "You Americans have it made"! And we do.

  2. Hi annie!, firstly, love what you did in your previous post with Perspective (got side tracked and missed commenting..whoops!).
Your day out to the beach here looked like fun..and What! is that with the men on bikes with guns!!! see from Robin's comment they are military..yikes.
We will miss the pics of Sophia, but her mums choice after all....(I've recently had to respect my DD's request regarding something on my site and acknowledge her point of view), such is being a mum aye.

    1. Thanks Ann. Perspective is going to be a good word for me this year. :)

We had a lot of fun. Sophia's favorite place! There are armed guards and military all over the area and in the city. The first time we visited - in 2k8, before moving here, it was much more common. Seems that certain 'bad' guys are on the move again, so they've 'stepped up' the guards in the last few months. This area is a private beach and those homes behind are very expensive...so it really depends a lot on where you are.

And yes...we mom's have to respect our children's wishes. I agree with her mostly...but oh man...do I want to show off my babies!!!

  4. I feel like I've just been on a slightly scary holiday. I'm going back to have a closer look (from the safety of my computer screen).

    1. Thanks! I'm feeling SO different about living here now that we've decided to move back. Trying my best to see the best of it.

  7. Interesting to see where you are. I really liked the colorful bus, especially. So artsy. I do pictures of Ukraine like you did. I should post more. So where are you moving to? That's a big step. Daughter moving too? Hope it all goes well.

    1. The buses here are very unique! Each bus line owner has his own decoration scheme. And the inside of the bus is what's fascinating! I'll have to get some pix of those. We're buying a house in FL next month but will only be there part of the year. For the next two years we'll spend most of our time here in Colombia. My daughter isn't moving back. Her hubby's mom is here and he has a great job! Maybe in the future. Thank you. It's all going like a dream come true!

  8. Wow. Lots of photos! It was a little scary seeing boys with guns... I understand about keeping kids' photos off the internet. I don't think I'd have mine up there, ever!

    1. Not the greatest shots since I was bumping along in the Land Rover...but you get the idea. And yes, as much as I want to show them off...I respect and agree with mommy!

    1. There IS so much beauty here. I see it especially in the eyes and smiles of the Colombian people. Saying that, I must also say, that I'm very excited to move back to the States this year...where I feel more peaceful and don't have to look so hard to see it. Thank you for your lovely comment.
