TRES PESCADAS

estrapajos - inside

I'll be teaching a workshop in Clearwater, FL on April 5th and 7th at the studio of Marlene Glickman

estropajos (the lady that helps me with the house brought them from a tree in her barrio)

It's exciting to be preparing to teach again!

why they call them estrapajos - scrubbers - i use one in the shower

Marlene asked me if I'd like to bring some items to sell, so I got to work making what I call Door Knob Quilts.

estrapajo seeds

I was in the mood to paint fabric so I began by playing with acrylics and smallish scraps. (What else...right?!?)

I use any brand of acrylic paint and have no problem sewing through it. I save all of the scraps when I trim anything and pieced the batting in the following quilt.

When the paint dried...this one

looked like three little fish so I free motion stitched

them swimming along the bottom of the ocean.

I added some trim at the bottom (scrap cut off of another project), fishing lures and loops for hanging.

I'm not convinced that I like it better with all the 'extras'.

What do you think?!?

  2. With your trip almost upon you, I just cannot imagine how busy you must be getting ready for it, plus the fact you will be preparing for a teaching workshop into the bargain!..exciting though. Love the little fishes, your artistic nature obviously 'saw' them and you were right to add the extras, it absolutely 'makes it'.

    1. Thank you Ann! I totally value your input and now feel more confident about leaving it as is! I've been busy, busy for the past 2 months...so now...it's a fairly easy few days before 'take-off'. (She says as 4 million things to do run through her mind). :)PS - I did find frames for your paintings and hope to finish them before leaving!!!

and want to come over and play!

  11. I love the doorknob quilt. :) Who doesn't love some fishies?

Again this year I will be trying to grow luffa! (The same as you have, but I can pronounce it!) It's not much for a zone 3/4 habitat, but....I'm stubborn!

    1. Thank you honey bunny! I didn't realize luffa grew on a vine until I cracked these open! It's awesome to have one in the shower. Even if seeds are still falling out of it. Keep trying...
